a me right after a moderately disappointing day.

checking the elevation profile in the race bible, it looked like something i could win through my standard “climb until kids get sad” regimen. sadly, huge climb it was not, and there were numerous flat spots (along with a pancake-flat wide open finish) giving the 30-man chase group the chance to catch me from 1k out…had spent my day in a 5-man break from 30k from start that came apart on the first rise to bachelor. anyway, field sprinter i am not, and got the pack finish.

checked out a local coffee shop on the way back from the stage on a local tip - thump. apparently they show the tour stages in the AM. may have to convince my travelmate to head down early and check out the TT for some inspiration before ours. things should get shaken out nicely there, followed by the crit and what might be a tough circuit race.

food: cobbled together grilled pizza with steak/garlic/onions (the premade dough doesn’t seem to stretch well) and a grilled peach.

there’s probably enough nutritional content in this photo to feed a small African nation for a day. nothing like stage race packing to realize how calorically needy things can get.
